An absconding criminal, wanted in connection with an attack on a BJP leader, was arrested by the police after a short encounter in which the accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg in the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

According to the police, Kapil Yadav was wanted and absconding for the past three days, after he and his accomplices attacked and seriously injured local BJP leader Puran Singh Bhadoria, his brother Vinod, and another person in connection with a land dispute in the Murar area.

At around 3 AM, the police received input that Kapil and his accomplice, Aman Yadav, were spotted near the Mela Ground in Gwalior. Police teams surrounded the spot and managed to arrest Aman, but Kapil somehow escaped.

The police continued to search for him, and after about two hours, he was cornered near a brick kiln in the Mohanpur area.

As per Gwalior SSP Dharamveer Singh, Kapil opened fire on the police team. The police also fired back, and a bullet hit Kapil in the leg. He fell on the ground, and the police arrested him. He was admitted to a hospital for treatment, and further investigations are ongoing in the matter.

Police said that more than a dozen cases of serious offences, including murder, are already registered against Kapil Yadav, and he also had a reward of Rs 10000 on him.
